How To Start
It's not easy by any means, but it is really, really simple. The principles of starting anything new comes down to simply putting in the effort and taking steps towards your goal.
Many people find this question confusing. And yes, I was one of them.
For a long time, I didn't know where to start, what kind of content I should create, what I should sell, or who to ask for help.
It wasn’t until I did this one thing that I figured it all out.
It might have been more about what I stopped doing than what I started doing.
I stopped giving a shit.
I stopped caring about failing, about what people thought, and about figuring it out.
I just started.
I know what you’re thinking.
It’s so much more complicated than that…
But, it’s not.
It really is that simple.
Now, I’m not saying it’s easy. It’s not easy. There is a lot of work that goes into starting any new venture in your life. There are a lot of things you will have to learn and a lot of things that you will do wrong. That is exactly why it is important to just start.
If you wait until you are ready to start, you will never start.
For a long time, as I was learning about online business, I was worried about doing the wrong thing. I was worried about what people would think. I was worried about failing.
I knew I wanted to find a way to achieve financial freedom so that I could spend my time doing things I enjoy. More importantly, I didnt want to be stuck at a job for a majority of my waking hours. I don’t mind having to work, I understand that we all need money to pay bills and survive. I just wanted to do that work on my own terms.
I wanted to be able to do work sitting at the top of a mountain if I wanted to. I didn’t want to have to punch a clock.
When I finally started, I failed a few times before I learned anything.
Even when I first started, I was so worried about what other people would think that I wouldn’t allow myself to be fully invested.
I started a faceless Instagram account that nobody knew about, trying to sell products through affiliate marketing. I saw the opportunity of other people living the life that I wanted and figured I could do it too.
The issue was, that I didn’t believe in the business. The products were cool and I still use them every day. But, I just couldn’t connect the idea of selling a business opportunity, a multi-level marketing opportunity.
As I was engrossed with that community more and more, I felt less and less connected. I knew deep down I needed to figure something else out.
So, I used that as an opportunity.
I took some of the skills I had already learned about content creation and I dove in even further. I learned about video editing, copywriting, SEO, website design, email marketing, you name it.
Then, I started looking for people that would pay me money to do that work for them.
A lot of people said no.
But, a few said yes. That’s when I knew I was on to something.
I completely disconnected from the idea of being an affiliate marketer, selling products and business opportunities, and went all in on starting my own thing. I deleted that secret Instagram account and decided to be vulnerable on my personal account.
I decided I no longer cared what people thought. I was going to do this for myself, not anybody else.
When I realized what I needed to do to make this work for myself, I realized the best way for my to grow my business was to simply be me.
I realized that I am my business. My business is not only the services I provide, but it is my brand.
The crazy part of all of this is that I waited so long and delayed my success because I was worried about things that didn’t even exist.
I have received immense support from people in my life since I started creating content about what I am doing. My following is growing every day. And I am consistently getting new opportunities with new clients.
None of this would have happened if I say to myself, “Fuck it, I’m just gonna start.”
I don’t want to sound like a broken record, but it really is that simple.
Stop overthinking. Stop stalling. Stop being scared.
Too many people let the decision-making process get in the way of them taking action.
All you need to know is what your goal is. It can be as broad or as specific as you want. Once you know your goal, start taking small steps toward that goal.
If you want to get in shape, go for a walk, and see where that takes you.
If you want to start a business, find a product or service that you could sell and offer it to people in exchange for money.
If you want to learn a new skill, start doing that skill.
You are not going to find success at first. You are far more likely to fall flat on your face.
But, the more you fail, the more you learn, and the more you grow.
Don’t allow indecision to get in the way of your success. Try something. Do it wrong. Make mistakes. Learn.
Eventually, you’ll look back on when you first started and be humbled by how far you’ve come.
