Motivation Isn’t What You Think

For a long time, I struggled with motivation. I would always say to myself, tomorrow I’m going to wake up early and go to the gym.

Tomorrow I am going to start eating better.

Tomorrow I am going to start working on my business.

The thing about tomorrow is that there is always another one… until there isn’t.

I would watch videos or read inspiring quotes that got me all pumped up, but then the next morning I’d hit snooze on my alarm too many times. I would wake up too late and not have time to do the things I said I would do.

I just wasn’t motivated enough. Or so I thought.

It wasn’t that I lacked motivation, though that was part of it. It was more that I lacked the discipline to do the things that would make me feel motivated.

See, motivation is a feeling. Discipline is the actions you take regardless of how you feel.

Discipline is what moves you forward, not motivation.

It’s not about how you feel. It’s about what you do.

It’s about training your brain. 

It comes down to one thing. We’ve all heard it before.

Dopamine.

Dopamine is what drives us to do anything. Dopamine is what drives action.

It’s what helps you go from talking about it to being about it. From planning your next moves to actually moving. From watching others chase their dreams to sprinting after yours.
