The Truth About Building Sustainable Habits and Routines
It’s been a slow morning…
I haven’t taken a lot of time to sit down and just write a lot recently…
Still writing enough to continue putting out content, but it has not been a consistent part of my daily routine.
I remember when I left my job to work on my business full time, one of the things I committed to was to take time to write every single day.
And I did that, for a little bit…
But a long with a lot of the good habits I let myself get away from… this one faded away too.
Over the past few weeks I have been focusing on getting my routine back on track.
I have been focused on not allowing myself to scroll on my phone when I first wake up in the morning (or before going to bed).
Instead, I am choosing to read first thing in the morning and right before I go to sleep at night.
I have slowly started to exercise again. Nothing crazy, not a really specific routine yet, but just starting to get back on track and moving my body again.
A little lifting, a little running, some yoga.
I have been focused on eating better again. Just by making some more conscious decisions about what I am putting in my body. No crazy diet, not restricting myself from the foods I enjoy.
Just better decisions here and there.
The next step is to start writing again. Not necessarily every single day, but more often.
Over the coming weeks, all of these efforts will begin to compound.
It will become easier to leave my phone away from me for loner periods in the morning at not.
I will read more and more.
My exercise routine will become more streamlined. I will start to see results faster and faster.
It will become easier to make good decisions with the food I eat.
It will become a habit to write more and more.
Most people think that when trying to implement something new into your life, you have to start strong immediately and go all out.
But that’s not true.
That is the opposite of how you build something sustainable.
That is how you burn out. That is how you lose interest. That is how you quit.
Starting slow is the way.
One small step at a time.
One small victory at a time.
Let them compound.
Eventually, you will look at yourself and realize you are a completely different person than when you started.
